INSPIRE Devotionals With Emmanuel Afiawari Tuesday, December 17, 2024 Topic: THE DILEMMA IN IDENTITY CRISIS (Part 1)! Bible Text: Proverbs 23:7A NKJV; Hosea 2:7 NKJV Proverbs 23:7A NKJV 7. For as he thinks in his heart, so is he..." Hosea 2:7 NKJV 7. She will chase her lovers, but not overtake them; Yes, she will seek them, but not find them. Then she will say, ‘I will go and return to my first husband, for then it was better for me than now.’ INSPIRATION: One of the most profound statements in scriptures is, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new" (2  Cor. 5:17). It establishes a new order of identity for the believer in Christ. Sadly, at the dawn of a new era, believers are often caught in the Web of identity crisis, where they mistake their new identity for whom they are not, and find it hard to accept the new reality. It is against this backdrop that a believer is often going back to doing things one would have thought they've outgrown, leaving you to wonder what their problem is. Apostle Paul was caught up in this sort of a dilemma when he described himself thus: "For I fail to practice the good deeds I desire to do, but the evil deeds that I do not desire to do are what I am [ever] doing" (Romans 7:19). Identity crisis can make you do unimaginable things. Gomer, Prophet Hosea's wife provides us a classic example. Married as a harlot to a Prophet was a big deal. One would have thought she would turn a new leaf but she kept going back after her numerous lovers. She'd always think herself as unworthy of her new status; she thought of herself still as a prostitute and she kept going back to her past. But the deeper she sunk, the more genuine love kept chasing after her. Her thinking made things worse for her: each time she got cleaned up, she fell back deeply that her husband would have to go looking for her from one lover to another's place. TODAY'S TAKE HOME: Deal with your weaknesses and accept your new identity. Celebrate your transformation and walk in that reality. Think with scriptures as you pray concerning your future. As you think so you are (Pro. 23:7). PRAYER: Oh Lord, cause me to see myself in the light and truth of your word always, and help to think right according to the revelation of my new identity, in Jesus name.
