Listen "Getting Out of Bed With Depression"
Episode Synopsis
This episode is targeted to help people experiencing the side of depression that makes simple day-to-day things, like getting out of bed, feel near impossible. I compare the process of getting from a place where you feel as though you can't even get out of bed, to a place where you are able to function 'normally' as a staircase. I talk about the process of getting up this staircase in three stages: stage one where you feel at your lowest and what you can do at this point to just make it up the first steps; stage two where you are able to implement a few simple but essential things into your daily routine; and stage 3 where you are nearing the top of the stairs and you can make daily plans and up your productivity (whatever productive means to you). I also talk about things that you can avoid the night before in order to improve the ease of waking up on a morning, as well as things that friends/family members of somebody struggling with the discussed issues can do that can prove genuinely helpful. Everybody's experience with mental illness is unique but I hope that there is something positive that you can take away from this episode.
