Even though secular music is more mainstream/contemporary and probably more popular than gospel music however, as Christians, we should strive to edify ourselves with spiritual songs that can build us up. The bible says we should edify ourselves with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs so the bible is very clear on the type of music we should listen to as believers. There are so many talented gospel artistes like Lecrae whose song beats sound contemporary albeit glorifying and praising God in their lyrics, those are great alternative for people who love that contemporary rap/bops/beats.
