Episode Synopsis

In this episode, i share my experience of moving to America as international student from Nigeria with little to no money. I left a lucrative career in banking and moved to America in 2011 for my Masters (graduate school) in America. However, I wasn't financially prepared for the journey and had no money saved up before coming the the US. With only 40% scholarship, my school fees was in the thousands of dollars and i had only come with a fraction of that. I struggled a lot and did all sorts of off jobs to survive, my mental health and academics suffered because of that. Despite all the struggles, i was able to persevere through the help and grace of God. I eventually got funding/fellowship after a while which helped me through my program. Even though it's been 14 years since this experience, I still beat myself up for coming to America financially unprepared. That experience shaped my life and i learnt great lessons of how to be financially wise and save up for your dreams. If you're an international student considering making the move to America or just curious about what it's like to start from scratch in a new country, then this video is for you.
