Listen "My postpartum journey - depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts & my miraculous recovery after 2 years"
Episode Synopsis
In this episode, my friend Abies Adeyeri returns to share her postpartum journey and experience with us. Abies takes us through her pregnancy journey, being diagnosed with fibroids during her first pregnancy and the pain and difficulties she experienced, doctors/hospital visits and how she successfully delivered her beautiful baby girl. With her husband being far away in another country, it was a tough experience for her to go with little or no support. Her 2nd pregnancy went on smoothly and 3rd pregnancy mostly went smoothly until just before her due date when she started experiencing some unusual symptoms, went in to the doctors. and was diagnosed with preeclampsia and had to deliver her baby earlier than the due date. Her postpartum journey after that pregnancy was a long and arduous one. After her discharge from the hospital with 3 young kids and a husband who worked full time, the responsibility of the home fell heavily on her. She went days without much sleep because her newborn needed to be attended to. She said it really messed with her sleep pattern and circadian rhythm, she was basically running on no sleep and over time, began to affect her blood pressure and mental health struggles (depression, anxiety and intrusive thoughts) which were really bad. This season lasted for over 2 years during which she had to go back to work. She said the lack of support played a huge role in her postpartum depression and all that came with it. During this time, she relied strongly on God and her Faith. With the help of God's Word, prayers and therapy, she was able to fight through the dark clouds and fully heal/recover now, an advocate for working moms and the importance of community and support. She said that having community and support is very important for new moms to be able to manage their mental health especially after a difficult pregnancy or birthing. Through this difficult postpartum journey, she grew in her faith, deconstructed her Faith and found God for herself in a deeper and meaningful way and teaches on the importance of sound biblical teachings. She hopes sharing her story will inspire other moms and women who are in similar situations or have struggled with anxiety, depression or had mom struggles. Abies's story is one of courage, Faith, strength and resilience. I hope you enjoyed this episode.
