Listen "Why married women should have a life outside of their marriage & husbands"

Episode Synopsis

I am joined by my sister Afy to discuss why women should have a life outside of their marriage or their husbands. A lot of African women get into marriage with the expectation of being housewives and have their husbands provide for their families. However, in today's world and current economy, both people (husbands & wives) need to pull their weight financially to make things work. Afy advices women to be resourceful, get jobs or do petty trading and be financially independent of their husbands. She believes women should be able to contribute meaningfully to the family. She shares her own personal story of how she worked hard as a young mom of 5 kids to be able to support her family despite having a husband. She advices women not to solely rely on their husbands income to support them but they should find a job or start a business (no matter how small). Doing so, will not only give them independence but give them an identity, provide mental & emotional wellness and earn them some respect from their husbands an in-laws. She advises women to take care of themselves and look good and attractive for their husbands. Wives should be their husbands back bones, cook for them and take care of them and on the other hand, husbands should love and be appreciative of their wives efforts. Having raised 5 kids ranging from 15 to 27 year old, she shares her struggles raising the kids almost single handedly sometimes traveling with them on business trips to broker deals. She looks back now and is grateful that her kids are grown and doing well. This episode is for women everywhere, it is packed with great words of advice and testimony of how one woman overcame many obstacles to achieve her dream of seeing her children become successful through her sacrifice as a wife and mom.
