Episode Synopsis "The Science of Low Speed Accidents 3"
AskDrNed.com Today we're going to look at three different studies that showed the mechanism of neck injury in a rear impact car accident. Researchers found within fractions of a second after the impact the neck deformed into an S- shape. It happens so fast that there was nothing a person could do to protect themselves. Probably the most significant finding was that all of this happened at speeds as low as 2.5 miles per hour. Researchers radiographically proved that the human threshold for injury in a rear impact auto accident is 2.5 mph. Other authors have disputed these figures and some insurance company sponsored studies have found the threshold to be closer to 5 mph. Orem Chiropractor - R.
