This is a great discussion around innovation with David Martin, who is a highly regarded Innovation Facilitator working with The Australian Industry Group on the Australian Federal Government's Entrepreneurs' Programme. In this episode, David delivers some great insights and clear takeaways for business leaders who want to drive more innovation in their business. In his current role, David acts as an interpreter to assist the business community to effectively engage and collaborate with research organisations across Australia. On behalf of his industry partners, David finds the right researchers to work with them, facilitates the development of project plans and commercial arrangements with the relevant research organisation. With over fifteen years’ experience in executive roles in the private and public sector, David’s career has been diverse having represented Australia in global business competitions, worked in resource exploration as a geologist, mergers and acquisitions in the oil and gas industry, the development of resources and energy policy at both the Federal and State level, maximising opportunities for Australian industry in $88 billion dollars of major projects and delivering financial assistance of over $22 million dollars to innovative SME's. An effective communicator, David regularly presents on innovation and government assistance at public forums and has taught researchers from 5 Universities on how to successfully communicate and engage with industry. While working with C-Suite management, David has undertaken Innovation and Business reviews of customers resulting in action plans outlining critical areas for business improvement, commercialisation of new products and services and potential pathways for growth. In November 2015 David led Australia’s team in the Global Business Challenge, (a graduate business case/pitch competition to design sustainable solutions to global problems), and placed second in the world. In addition, David was selected by QUT’s MBA programme to represent the University at the prestigious John Molson Business Case Competition in Montreal Canada in January 2015.
