Episode Synopsis

This series of podcasts is curated to celebrate KL Design Festival 2022, co-organized by PAM NEXT, with a theme of Resilience in Architecture. The guests were invited to share their perspectives and thoughts from different disciplines to provide a diverse understanding of being resilient in architecture and beyond.   In this episode, Gary had a conversation with Zhai Gen on food security and its urgency to seek more attention to its influence from political, cultural and environmental changes.  "Malaysia as a food paradise, fuelled by the blessed diversity of cultural and racial background, is becoming an issue to be aware of when it comes to what Zhai Gen pointed out on availability, affordability, accessibility and nutrition. We discussed about Nasi Lemak as one of the examples to further investigate its source and level of nourishment to Malaysians. This is also reflected into the topic of energy (which was also discussed but not included in this episode) where food is the energy source - expressing the metaphor of 'we are what we eat' - and therefore the topic of food has never been so important to be highlighted when comes to food production in the light of climate change.
