Episode Synopsis "Paris Feltner's Story"

Paris Feltner was born on February 12th 1998. 9 months after she was born she was diagnosed with Xeroderma Pigmentosum. Also known as XP. XP is a rare genetic skin disorder. Patients with XP are missing an enzyme in their skin that repairs UV damage so all damage is cumulative and permanent. When this damage is compiled it causes skin cancer. When Paris was 8 she had a skin cancer (squamous cell carcinoma) on her head and throughout her early 20’s she has had three more skin cancers (basal cell carcinoma) on and around her face. Because of this condition patients with XP can only go out in the sun fully protected with a special hat that has UV absorbent plastic on the front, a jacket, jeans, and socks to fully cover all skin. Patients cannot go out in the sun under any circumstance unprotected because all exposure is permanent and can cause skin cancer. Paris is excited to share her story with me & educate more people on XP!
