Episode Synopsis "EMBRACING INDIVIDUALITY"

YOU…You belong somewhere. You belong to a family, school, community, company, society, and/or country.  With these groups, some norms and ideals govern our behaviors. Societal norms are not entirely detrimental. On the contrary, they are beneficial for maintaining sanity and order among us. With these norms, there are expectations set up by those around us and inevitably assign us roles. What roles do you play? You could be playing the role of a daughter, son, sister, brother, mother, father, friend, colleague, student, etc. Each social role carries expected behaviors. These behaviors affect our perceptions of ourselves and others, and ultimately, we develop a sense of belonging to particular groups of identities such as family, company, school, community, etc. This, however, has a downside because it sometimes limits us by inculcating fear of being unacceptable. This, sadly, leads to most people living unsatisfying and rather unhappy lives. Individuality is such a valuable endowment that, in my opinion, we need to embrace it to acquire personal happiness. If we try to fit or hide to fit societal norms, we cause our own sense of self-worth to lessen and only magnify our insecurities. Therefore, be confident enough to stay true to yourself. Additionally, you may need to brace yourself for the challenges that may arise due to operating, even vaguely, against societal norms. Know that it is okay to be different. By embracing this fact, you will be able to teach those around you, and even your children, that it is okay to love themselves and accept others.Remember not to do anything, however, that you wouldn’t want to be done to you.As always, stay safe.Be kind.Be confident This is a public episode.
