Episode Synopsis "You Have Overcome the World"
We may want to dismiss the Christian hope of heaven as a foolish fantasy; a childish dream. It's a great thought, a nice idea, but it is totally unrealistic and impractical. Heaven doesn't help us live in the real world. Who has the time to daydream about such silly "unuseful" things when we have real problems to deal with? The idea of heaven is a good distraction, a nice diversion, from the crushing troubles of the world… An opiate for the masses. But the Christian hope of heaven is not a useless childish fantasy. It is not a diversion or distraction from the real world. It is the real world. Because we have overcome the world. [Sermon on Nov. 22, 2020. Part 11 of the 1 John Sermon Series]1 John Sermon Series Description:Have you ever wondered if you are believing the right thing? It seems that many of the young new believers of the 1st century were struggling with the same questions and doubts plaguing believers in the 21st century. How do I know if I am truly saved? How can I have genuine assurance of salvation? What is Christianity really all about? In this sermon series, we will follow the Apostle John as he teaches us what is a true Christian, how we can know that we know God, how we can have true assurance of salvation, and other foundational truths.
