Episode Synopsis
In this episode, we interviewed Leah DeMarest, an Iowa licensed mental health counsellor, author and public speaker and she shares the importance of understanding your mental health. There's a lot of shame around mental illness and her goal is to educate people about the importance of taking their of their mental health and de-stigmatizing, mental illnesses. She talked about the effect of trauma on the brain, the importance of taking care of our brain and getting therapy when we experience trauma. Just as we take care of our physical health, we should also take care of our mental health by exercising, taking vitamins and going to therapy if necessary. Her book "Through the fog" is a useful resource to help people taking care of those with mental illness know the right thing to do to help them.
This episode is for someone going through mental health struggles (depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc) or someone who interested in learning more about their mental health. You are not alone in your struggles and identifying your triggers/what's going on in your brain will help you heal faster.
