In this episode, we interviewed Ellie Figueroa who is a talented physicist, engineer and a wife with a successful 9 to 5 tech career. She realized at a very young age that she had a flair for arts and creativity. Despite knowing that, she opted to pursue a degree in Physics because of the opportunity it will provide her to problem solve and make the world a better place. However, she never lost that flair for arts. Her introduction back into creativity started with making jewelry (earrings, necklaces, bracelets) for herself and for gifting others and then during the pandemic, she bought a sewing machine and started making clothes/dresses, re-purposing special clothing for quilts, making collar for her dog (Maggie). She eventually delved into wood working/carpentry, making work bench for her garage and even re-designing her kitchen cabinets. For Ellie, while her love for science remains, art comes naturally for her and holds a special place in her heart. We also discussed the perceived gender disparity that exists in the creative space and what we think about it. This was a nice light hearted episode. Hope you enjoyed it.
