Listen "Living in Africa as an American, Isolation, Heartbreak & Acting adventures in Kenya with Jason Corder"
Episode Synopsis
In this episode, I interviewed Jason Corder a TEDx speaker, actor & writer who has lived outside the US for over 22 years. He shares his opinion and experience of his time living in Africa (Kenya), and dealing with isolation and lack of real community even though his career as an actor was flourishing. The lack of community/isolation in Africa ultimately led to the breakdown of his marriage. Jason's goal is to highlight the importance of social closeness and building strong connections. In his first TEDx talk, he talked about the importance of social closeness and re-establishing connections. Due to his experience living outside America, he has deep empathy of foreigners/minorities living in America who feel like they don't belong. He believes that even though Americans are good at trying to be inclusive/accepting of people of different cultures, there's still a lot of lip service & virtue signaling going on . His advise is for Americans to be more open minded and see people beyond their "skin color" or ethnicity. While in Kenya, Jason starred in couple hit TV shows like Mali & Stay and wrote/produced Kenya's first comedy series & reality TV show.
If you're an American wanting to learn about how to be more welcoming and accepting of immigrants/foreigners, this is a good episode for you. Great nuggets from Jason and Zuki on how to overcome your biases and hold space for people of colors to feel included and integrated into the American society just as Africans welcome Americans wholeheartedly into their country. #livinginafrica #isolation #diversityandinclusion #immigrantlife #livinginkenya #movetoafrica #livingabroad #podcast
