Listen "Are you touch starved? (how to meet your needs) w/ Epiphany Jordan, MPH, CPH"
Episode Synopsis
Are you touch starved? Research shows lots of people are touch starved and don't even know how t get their touch needs met. In this episode, I am joined by Epiphany Jordan, MPH, CPH who is an expert on the topic of human touch and we discussed the benefits of human touch. Epiphany shares what it means to be touch starved and how it shows up in things like depression, anxiety and sadness. It's been shown that there are chemicals that gets released when we touch each other which reduces our cortisol levels (stress hormones) and has so many health benefits. Single people can get their touch needs met by being intentional with their friends and getting more connected. Married people or people in romantic relationships can also be touch starved if they don't pay attention to their partner's needs for touch. While different cultures approach the topic of touch differently, it is still a basic human need which we crave. Even though it is easier for female friendships to be more connected and touch each other, it is not necessarily so for men because of the male machismo and masculinity. Men and people who cannot get their touch needs met by friendship or relationships can get massages, spa treatments, cuddlers, etc. Touch therapy is a thing and the more you get your touch met, the richer the quality of your life will be. Hope this episode helped shed more light on the topic of touch for you. Hope you enjoyed it?
