Episode Synopsis "Postnatal Mental Ill-Health - is a Dad thing, Birth Trauma is a Dad thing, so Dads let's talk"
This is our final episode of Series 1 and what a great conversation I had with this Dad, Scott Mair. It is an hour long episode but well worth a listen. Scott and his wife met at college, have been together for 22 years now and have 7, yes 7 boys ranging from 18 years down to 2 years. Scott is an Army veteran and has had mental ill health since the birth of his first child 18 years ago. suffering with postnatal depression, anxiety and PTSD, although at the time he didn't realise what was wrong with him. Through his experiences of poor mental health after the birth of 3 of his sons Scott began to understand the need for Dads to have a voice and began PMH Support highlight to address this. he works with Maternity services and mental health organisations to give new Dads or Dads to be a greater understanding of the phenomenon of Paternal Mental Health and the professionals they encounter during their journey through fatherhood. Scott talks about what triggered his condition and the struggles he went through. I am afraid you may shed a tear or two as I did, not the porfessional reaction of a podcast interviewer but I am a midwife, mother and empath and I couldn't help myself.
