In the last chapter of “Because of Winn-Dixie,” we learned something about the character of Winn-Dixie. We learned he doesn’t like to be left behind at home. So, Opal and her dad started taking him wherever they went. They even took him to church!  In the next chapter, Opal will go to the library, and we’ll meet a new character, the librarian. The librarian’s name is “Miss. Franny Block.” Pay attention to Miss. Franny Block, and the story that she’d going to tell Opal.

Well readers, what did you think of that story? How do you think Opal felt when she was listening to Miss Franny’s story about the bear?  In the last part of the chapter, a new person comes into the library. She’s Amanda Wilkenson, and Opal had mentioned her before as a girl who goes to her church, but Opal didn’t think Amanda would want to be her friend.  What do you think Amanda Wilkenson is going to be like?
