Episode Synopsis "Awaken My Remnants presents a Maim Time Production: How a Korean-German Financier Turned from Prodigal Son to Prodigious Father. "

Let me tell you a story! Last summer, an awesome group of friends and I had the most amazing vacation on the east coast of Korea, booking caravans on a beach in Yangyang. While I was there, I met Aaron, his wife Reese, and their 4 children playing in the sand and water. I noticed they spoke a mix of German, Korean, and English to their beautiful, funny kids.We talked over drinks and a campfire on a summer night. I was amazed to learn Aaron was the son of 파독글로자, the Korean miners and nurses sent to Germany in the 1960s-80s. It wasn’t long ago that I learned about their struggles to fuel both Korea and Germany’s economies. I had just saw this movie, Ode to My Father. In Korean, it’s called 국제시장, which means International Market. In that movie, it tells the story of a Korean man who moves to Germany to work as a miner, and his struggles. It’s an amazing, emotional movie. That’s just fascinating to me. As a Korean-Americans, we’re so similar having grown up in the west and yet different. I’m totally engrossed in the experiences and perspectives of other Korean diasporas. I’m quite intrigued, humbled, and proud to know them. Coming to Korea just to meet other diaspora has been one of the best parts of living here. Not only is Aaron an experienced, well-traveled, meticulous, diligent, work-hard-play-hard ambitious businessman, he’s an amazing loving husband and father who disciplines his children and loves on them well. That’s one of the most awesome things about him and their family. They want to instill the best parts of both Korean and German cultures, and grow well-disciplined, behaved, yet loving and free children.Anyways, I told him I had a podcast, he told me he wrote a book.Well, I finally read it! And we finally talk about his stories, his lessons and his dope book.I hope you enjoy this episode. If you like it, or know someone who would get something out of it, please share it with them!
