Listen "Climate Change in the Mekong River Delta Region, by Kaitlynn Hammons"
Episode Synopsis
I did my podcast over the Mekong River Delta Region of Vietnam. I examined how the effects of climate change will hurt the area’s agriculture sector which will in turn negatively impact the lives of the people living there and the economy of Vietnam as a whole. Overall, unless substantial changes are made and the course of events is altered so that sea levels don’t rise then the area will not be able to survive. The land will no longer be able to be farmed on and almost all people will be forced to move inland while taking a huge hit on Vietnam’s GDP. However, towards the end, I talk of hope with the youth in Vietnam taking charge and how they are gaining some substantial ground. I conclude with some rhetorical questions and a reminder that the scenario of Vietnam can happen to anyone anywhere, so hopefully, viewers feel a deeper connection to the situation.
