Listen "Lord, Have Mercy On Us"
Episode Synopsis
This morning we continue in our study through the gospel according to Matthew as we consider Matthew 20:17-34. Our text this morning could be broken up into three sections. First, Jesus tells his disciples for a third time about his suffering and death (vv. 17-19). Second, Jesus responds to a request for the best seats in the kingdom and teaches about true greatness in the kingdom (vv. 20-28). Lastly, Jesus has mercy and heals two blind men who call out to Jesus in faith (vv. 29-34). In these stories we see that Jesus is the Son of Man who gave up his life as a ransom for many and opens the eyes of the blind in his mercy. Jesus teaches us to be truly great is not to be served, but to serve. While we want glory, what we need most is mercy. Jesus hears and responds to cries for mercy. He is full of compassion and moved with sympathy for sinners. We can call out to Him for mercy and ask for him to open our eyes to our selfish ambition and pride. Jesus is eager to heal you and show mercy.
