Listen "Behold, Your King"
Episode Synopsis
This morning we continue in our study through the gospel according to Matthew as we consider Matthew 21:1-11. Our text this morning contains what has been called “The Triumphal Entry.” In church tradition, it’s typically a text that’s read or taught through on what’s known as Palm Sunday. The Triumphal Entry is a turning point in the story of the gospel according to Matthew. Jesus is making a public declaration that the Promised King is here to bring salvation. In the story we see Jesus is the Sovereign King. He’s orchestrating and working in fulfillment of God’s promises. Jesus is the humble King. He’s gentle and lowly in heart and riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. Jesus is also the saving King who became a servant and went to the cross to die in the place of sinners. If Jesus is King, it means you don’t have to be. You don’t have to look for a King, a Ruler, a Hero, a Savior in anyone or anything else. You don’t have to be in control. Jesus being the sovereign, humble, and saving King means not only that you’re not in control, but it’s good that you’re not.
