In this opening conversation, Dr Elizabeth Wijaya presents an exposition on the "trans-Chinese" as a transitional term that acknowledges the multivalent, haunted histories of the term "Chinese," while drawing attention to works that inhabit, disavow, or swerve past being "Chinese" in ways that crucially puts the term and its burdens of national sovereignty under erasure. The conversation will be followed by a short discussion with curator Hsu Fang-Tze.
