Episode Synopsis "What's the deal with China's beef ban and barley tariff"
Two weeks ago China announced four abattoirs, including Toowoomba's Beef City, had been banned from exporting to it over 'labelling' issues. This week the country introduced an almost 80 per cent tariff on barley imports. This comes after Australia led a global push for an inquiry into the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic, with some suggesting the trade disputes were in retaliation to the push. In this latest episode of Toowoomba 2020, journalist Tobi Loftus speaks with University of Southern Queensland Rural Economies Centre of Excellence director Ben Lyons about just what is going on.
