Episode Synopsis "Under the Desk: Uptown in the 80s and 90s"

Hi everybody and welcome to Episode 2 of my new podcast series called RISE, UPTOWN! I am your host and my name is Beck Joyner.  So, just a little about myself before we get started! I’m  a full time real estate investor and realtor here in the city of Harrisburg, and by the way if you need my services or know someone who wants to purchase or buy in Dauphin and Cumberland County get in touch with me at area code 401-952-4171. I would appreciate your referral, so - on to Uptown - The purpose of this series is to get to know the history of the neighborhood and all the forces that shaped it - to understand how the neighborhood has come to be in the state that it’s in,  in order to - hopefully - understand what we can do to put it back on the right track and to get it economically healthy again. In 2020, I’m looking for everyone’s help, including yours. I am pulling together a coalition of residents, churches, non-profits and merchants to apply for a program that is administered by the Dept of Economic and Community Development called the PA Elm Street Community Program.  Essentially, our planning committee needs to submit a master plan, backed by a lot of data, to apply for this community designation.  If we can successfully do that, then the projects that we develop within the community are eligible for state grants.  The grant money can be used for housing and business development, facade improvements, public art, streetscaping, public safety programs and community events - it’s up to us to come up with a plan.
