Episode Synopsis "Hauturu Island"

Album Available at http://naturesounds.co.nz Featuring: Hauturu Morning Hauturu Flats Hauturu Waves Hauturu / Little Barrier Island. Maori named the island 'Hauturu', resting place of the wind. Legend has it that the island is the centre post of the great net of Taramainuku who cast his net from Cape Colville across the Hauraki Gulf to the Whangarei Heads. The Hen and Chicken Islands are the floats. I was lucky enough to visit as part of the "working weekends" in early April 2013, a few hours weeding and pruning in exchange for an unforgettable melee of birdsong and close up encounters with tuatara, kiwi & kokako. New Zealand, as it was.
