Colin Maclean OBE
Chairman, My Cancer My Choices.

A veterinary surgeon by training practiced in Gloucester, Rutland and Hampshire before joining Unilever to advise on pig breeding and marketing, working all round the world as a pig specialist, but particularly in the Iron curtain countries, who built some of the biggest pig farms in the world during the cold war. Became Deputy Managing Director and Head of R&D of Glaxo Animal health and helped them to build a larger involvement in agricultural pharmaceuticals.
Head hunted to become the Director General of the Meat and Livestock Commission, supporting and sponsoring the agricultural and food industries throughout the ‘Mad cow disease’ crisis. Awarded OBE for ‘Services to the Meat and Livestock Industries’ in the 2000 Millenium honours list.

Entered the NHS as Non Exec Director of Berkshire Health Authority in 1998, becoming Chair of the Royal Berkshire NHS Trust in 2000 and leading it to become the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust and one of the most successful NHS Trusts in the South East in 2006.
Board member of the Foundation Trust network, the NHS Confederation and ‘Solutions for Public Health’ and Trustee of Moorfields Eye Charity (2012) and the Association of NHS Charities, becoming its Chairman in 2017 and Chair of My Cancer My Choices on its inception in 2015.

Prostate cancer diagnosed in 2008 and successfully treated by radiotherapy and hormone therapy, which is still part of his ongoing treatment. Bowel cancer in 2014, treated by surgery, stoma creation and its later its removal. Given the ‘all clear’ in 2018.
