Listen "Don't wait for others to supprt you - Make your first Move - Jabu Zwane "
Episode Synopsis
As people we need the support of others, especially those who are close to us. But what happens when those we look to for support don't believe in us the way we do? What happen when they cannot see in us, what we feel deep inside? If you have no confidence in what you've been gifted in, don't expect others to.
There's a Bible verse that says: "A prophet is without honour in his own town". In this episode, Jabu Zwane, the Mindset Development Specialist, talks about why we shouldn't wait on others to make our first move to realise our dreams. The sad truth is that those who are close to us do not always have the objectivity needed to allow us to be greater than who they know us to be. Seeing us different would disturb their harmonious existence with us, perhaps heirachal harmony, economic harmony, comfort zone harmony, because our lack of success provides them some comfort. I heard Steve Harvey say once, paraphrasing: "If you want to kill a dream fast, share it with a small minded person".
So do yourself a favour, ask for input and supprt from your friends and family, but don't count on it to go forward. Share with them your dreams and aspirations, but don't fault them for not being excited with you. To some, you will always be: "Johnny the Smelly breath, Bobby the lazy one, Thando the Bomba, or Pretty the dumb one". Go out to find new spaces to fly in, because your current space may be roofed with too much "I know who you are types of talk. You can't succeed at anything type of declarations." Move on, move away and move into new spaces.
