Episode Synopsis "Could This COVID-19 Vaccine Campaign Convince It's Target Audience?"

Bryan Hernandez joins me in a conversation where we discuss various campaigns aimed to encourage communities of color to get the COVID-19 vaccine. African-Americans and Latinos are among the worst demographics to be hit by the pandemic. Yet in a study conducted by the CDC in December 2020, only 46.5% of Black Americans and 30.3% of Hispanics intended on getting the vaccine.Campaigns like Community Immunity, produced by Hip Hop Public Health, clearly target these “urban” populations through their cartoonish, Hip-Hop themed, minute-and-a-half-long videos urging people to get vaccinated. Creative in its intent, it’s effectiveness is questionable. Bryan and I discuss why perhaps a would better benefit these communities by informing, then encouraging vaccination.
