In episode 14, we are delighted to welcome Nick to the show. Nick starts his story by talking to us about the awful bullying he was subjected to as a schoolboy. Discovering alcohol in his mid-teens helped him to escape the mental anguish of that. Going to university, and the availability of cheap alcohol there was, in his own words, "like lighting the blue touchpaper". A career in journalism came later, a profession that Nick explains was perfect for an alcoholic. After talking to a friend who had ended up in Court as a result of his alcoholism, Nick took a long look at his own behaviour, and in 2004 made the move from active addiction to recovery. In the 17 years since, his life has blossomed, with new jobs, a wife and child, and one of his current roles is that f an Addictions Counsellor who has helped many on their journey from addiction to recovery.
