This month Dr. Kudirka talks about how to deal with one of the downsides of spending time outdoors this summer--insect bites! 1. When going into wooded areas where insects live, protect yourself with long sleeves, long pants, and insect repellant with DEET. 2. Most insect bites can be treated with home remedies such as cold compresses, antihistamines and hydrocortisone cream. 3. Severe insect bites causing extreme pain, marked swelling or systemic problems such as shortness of breath, fever, diffuse skin rash or swelling or shock need to be transported to an emergency room right away. #208 (PLAY)
