Episode Synopsis "How to Pray: Part 3"

'How to Pray' is a 7-part, weekly series offering practical guidance for anyone who's new to prayer, confused or intimidated by prayer, or anyone who just wants to learn more about prayer. We hope you'll enjoy the series and try out what you learn in your own prayers. Part 3 Resources: Prayer of Confession Based on Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43: Dear God, how easy it is for me to distinguish myself from "them." For the times I believe I am better than others — forgive me. For the times I put my ways on a pedestal to the neglect of others — forgive me. For the times I avert my gaze so I won't have to look at their condition — forgive me. For the times I wished they would all go away and live somewhere else —forgive me. For the times I feel no discomfort in judging others before I even know them — forgive me. For the ease with which I label people "them" and "other" — forgive me.   A liturgy for Holy Communion: Merciful God, we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.   Psalm 103 Isaiah 1:18 Romans 5:8   Aretha Franklin sings Amazing Grace: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFt1FRG4_VM
