Send a text message to the show! Most of us grew up with heroes.  I certainly did.  As I grew older and felt called to ministry, preachers became my heroes. What happens when one of your heroes fall? What about when one of those heroes hurt you? I experienced this as a young preacher.  I was devastated. A recent survey said 73% of people polled said they no longer attend church because they were hurt by a lay leader or pastor.  Astonishingly, it wasn’t that stopped believing in Jesus. They didn’t stop believing in the Bible. They stopped attending church because they lost trust in spiritual leadership. Let me be clear, this episode is NOT an attack on Pastors or lay leaders. But that 73% is way too high to sweep under the rug. People matter to God.  In this episode I’ll talk about the generational effect of church hurt and lay out 5 keys to how to respond and recover after being hurt at church. 1. Guard against “transferring disappointment”. 2. Think more about what Christ has done FOR you and less about what others have done TO you.3. Don’t attach the complete worth of “the cause” to any single event or individual. The cause must go on. 4. Do not allow the failure of others to become an excuse for you to fail.5. Give healing and restoration a chance. If you’ve been hurt, please know you’re not alone.
