Episode Synopsis

Hi, welcome back Azusa, Biola and Stanford scholars! This is chapter 3 of “Because of Winn-Dixie,” by Kate DiCamillo.  Last week, we read the first 2 chapters of this book, and some of you had some very good questions. Some of you were wondering how Opal came up with the name, Winn-Dixie.  Do you remember the store Opal was in when she first saw the dog? The name of the store was Winn-Dixie, so that was the first name that she thought of when she named the dog. That would be like if I found a cat wandering around outside a Taco Bell, and named the cat Taco-Bell.
In chapter 2, we met Opal’s dad, and he lets Opal keep Winn-Dixie. But, remember Winn-Dixie is a mess, and she has a lot of work to do to clean him up! Keep listening to find out what happens next with Opal, her dad, and Winn-Dixie!
*Read Chapter 3
In chapter 3, Opal talks to Winn-Dixie while she’s giving him a bath and cleaning him up. Opal tells Winn-Dixie about moving to a new town, and how she doesn’t really have any friends. She also tells Winn-Dixie about her mama. Opal says her mom left when she was 3 years old, so she doesn’t really remember her. Opal really wants to talk to her dad about her mom, and when she talks to Winn-Dixie, she finally gets the courage to ask her dad to tell her ten things about her mom.
