Listen ""Because of Winn-Dixie," by Kate DiCamillo. Teacher Read-Aloud, Chapter 4"

Episode Synopsis

Welcome back, Azusa, Biola & Stanford Scholars! This is Miss Martin, continuing our class read aloud, “Because of Winn-Dixie,” by Kate DiCamillo.
Previously, in chapter 3 of Winn-Dixie, we read that Opal gave Winn-Dixie a bath, and while she cleaned Winn-Dixie up, she talked to him about her life. She told Winn-Dixie about moving to a new town, and about how Opal doesn’t remember her mother, because she left when Opal was 3 years old. As she talked to Winn-Dixie, Opal felt encouraged to go talk to her dad about her mom. So, she and Winn-Dixie went inside, and Opal asked her dad to tell her 10 things about her mama.
This is what her dad told her…
*Chapter 4*
What did you think about that chapter, readers?  In Chapter Four, the preacher told Opal 10 things about her mother. Some of those things were good things, and some of them were sad. This list that we get from Opal’s dad, tells us about the character of Opal’s mom. We haven’t met Opal’s mom in the story, just like Opal doesn’t really know her.  We just listened to Opal’s dad talk about her.  Do these ten things tell us enough to really know Opal’s mother? What else might Opal want to know about her mama? What else would you like to know?
Send your teacher a message with your thoughts and questions. We look forward to hearing from you. And, make sure to listen next week when we read chapter 5 of “Because of Winn-Dixie!”
