For old long ago my friend, For long days past, I will always know you by your good heart, For long days past. So here's a hand my friend, And put your hand in mine, Now I take you through memory lane, From yesteryear a long time ago. We both met at school, And we both had a few interactions here and there. And they were significant, so they were worth it, For days of yesteryear a long time ago. I remember the day you came back from defending your bachelor's degree project. You had smiles, and your cheeks were radiant! "No questions asked!" I remember your cheerful declaration, Àdùní. And alas! It has become a good memory of yesteryear a long time ago. And you will surely raise your glass, For I will certainly raise mine, And we'll have a drink of kindness yet, For days of the past, For old long ago my friend, For long days past. I will always know you by your good heart, For long days past. ~The poem recited was written by me. It was inspired by the popular poem "Auld Lang Syne" attributed to Robert Burns. I found the poem in a book that was gifted to me, which is essentially a poetry collection titled "Great Poems" which was compiled by Kate Miles.
