Today's discussion is about learning from a true legend in the Metropolitan Police force on impactful change and eadership from the inside.Our guest is Hannah Wheeler QPM. Hannah recently retired at the rank of Chief Superintendent following a 32-year career in the Metropolitan Police. Hannah is an experienced and trusted operator with a broad experience of leading teams through change.With a strong background in partnership and collaboration Hannah was seconded to His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire and Rescue Services (HMICFRS)and led the first mental health inspection of all forces. Her report: ‘Policing and mental health – Picking Up the Pieces’ led to significant national progress against key recommendations.In March 2020 Hannah volunteered to assist in the national pandemic response and was appointed PPE lead. Hannah set up a temporary PPE distribution hub with military logistic expertise and led a small team to source, procure and distribute PPE to all police forces and overseas territories. Accompanying guidance was developed in collaboration with Home Office and Public Health England. Hannah was awarded the Queens Police Medal (QPM) in the 2021 Queens New Years honours for her inspirational leadership indelivering this unprecedented project.Hannah’s last role in the Met was leading on Career Development and support for officers and staff. Hannah has mentored and coached officers throughout her career anddelivered on the College of Policing Aspire course eveloping women and ethnic minority officers and staff. Hannah is most proud of her daughters Blaise and Ruby and enjoys open water swimming in her spare time!
