Listen "Seek First the Kingdom of God"
Episode Synopsis
This morning we continue in our study through the gospel according to Matthew as we consider Matthew 6:25-34. Jesus teaches his disciples to not be anxious, but instead to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness. He asks, "Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?" (Matthew 6:25b) He asks, "And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?" (Matthew 6:27) Jesus calls us to look at the birds of the air and consider the lilies of the field. Instead of having a constant preoccupation or worrying about what we will eat, drink, or wear, Jesus reminds his disciples that your heavenly Father knows what you need. Our Heavenly Father ultimately showed his great love, care, and provision for his children in sending his own Son to supremely clothe, feed, and sustain. Jesus was stripped naked that we would be clothed in his righteousness. He was thrown out that we might be brought in. Jesus remedied our greatest fear and anxiety of separation and disproval from God.Would God give us grace to seek his kingdom and his righteousness. We pray this seeking of the kingdom would be motivated from the generosity, kindness, and providence of God that's seen in his care of all creation, but ultimately in his greatest provision, the gifts of his own Son.
