Episode Synopsis "The Journal Podcast by Horizon Guides: Revisiting Attenborough's Mountain Gorillas"

Just over 1,000 mountain gorillas still reside in the rainforests of East Africa -- and that's after several decades of conservation efforts. Unlike many wildlife stories, tourism and travellers have a positive impact on mountain gorillas, with a percentage of all tracking permits going back into conservation.  In this podcast, we speak to renowned field biologist and founder of the Ape Alliance, Ian Redmond. He discusses helping Sir David Attenborough meet mountain gorillas in the famous Life on Earth documentary back in 1978; what it feels like to spend a magical hour in the gorillas' company; and the shocking impact of poaching on gorilla families.
