Our modern culture romanticizes wealth, and everyone seems to be craving it. But in The Great Gatsby, a clear message that is shown is that not everyone wants to work for it, and people who have connections to that wealth take advantage of it, heightening the expectations and difficulty for others to become successful as well. This closes a bridge between classes, limiting opportunities for others because very few selected people have this ‘gateway.’
