Episode Synopsis "Shoshana Hershkowitz and the Choir Room as a Safe Space"
Shoshana Hershkowitz is an artist in residence at Stony Brook University, where she conducts the Stony Brook Chorale, the Camerata Singers, and prepares choirs for the university’s opera productions. She has also been a guest conductor at numerous regional and state music festivals and she sings with the semi-pro chamber choir called evoco. I first met Shoshana through the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra about a year ago. She conducts the Suffolk Youth Chorale. My church hosted one of their Thursday night rehearsals and as the Director of Music Ministry, I ha the opportunity to be the person that unlocks the doors and I was able to sit in on the rehearsals. I got to watch Shoshana in rehearsal with the Suffolk Youth Chorale, and I’ve been a fan ever since. So I couldn’t think of a better person to have as my first guest.
