Pennsylvania’s budget secretary is stepping down to take over PSERS, Pennsylvania’s public school employees' retirement fund.
Uri Monson was appointed Budget Secretary in January 2023.
Gov. Josh Shapiro credits Monson with saving taxpayers “hundreds of millions of dollars” while helping Pennsylvania get its highest bond rating in more than a decade.
This was Monson’s second stint working with Shapiro, as Monson served as Montgomery County Chief Financial Officer when Shapiro was a County Commissioner.
Monson left that role to head finances at the Philadelphia School District.
Monson will be replaced as Pennsylvania Budget Secretary by Deputy Secretary Zachary Reber.
