Listen "Parenting Myths"

Episode Synopsis

During the summer, parenting can become even more challenging. We, as adults, can't take the whole summer off. We still need to work and pay our bills. In addition, now we have to entertain our kids while they are not attending school. Since buttons get pushed, and we may feel overwhelmed, we sign them up for this, that, and the other thing.  While some activities are wonderful, others are exhausting because they add commuting and stress to our already crammed to-do list. So how do we identify what is helping our kids and what is preventing them from developing emotional resilience? How do we manage our own emotions and self-care so we don't get overwhelmed? How do we spend valuable time with them without telling them exactly what to do at all times?Today I want to share three parenting myths that cause harm, especially in nuclear families when parents are the only family members raising their children.I want you to challenge these myths this summer while you hang out with your kids, nieces, nephews, or your friends' children. Then let me know how it worked for you. What I mention in this episode:Why parenting during the summer break is challengingSome parenting myths that cause havoc in nuclear familiesResearch about children developing emotional resilienceWhat you'll learn from it:How to allow your children to deal with disappointment  How to reframe boredom and stop entertaining your children all the time How to include your children in useful adult activities How to be open to sacrificing some efficiency for the sake of cultivating other valuesThank you so much for being here with me.
