Submitting to culture and allowing culture to influence you is not what’s best for you. Culture says when you submit to God you are missing out. How do you navigate the conversation when the person you are discipling asks, “How is submitting to culture not what’s best for me?”

Ask them this question:
1. Ask, Why do you often desire to be like the world around us (or, what entices us about the world/culture we live in)

2. Ask, In your experience, what is the promised outcome versus the actual outcome of being like the world/culture around us?

3. Read 1 Samuel 8:4-9,19-22 (observe how culture’s promised outcome is not the actual outcome)

4. Ask, what does the Bible say about living submitted to God?
- The promise outcome is our actual outcome
- Status/High position - 1 Peter 5:6
- Soul satisfaction- Psalm 63:5
- Perfect peace - Isaiah 26:3
- Inheritance form God - Colossians 3:24
- God has brought you into his family with people from every tribe, tongue, and nation - Ephesians 1:5 + Revelation 7:9
- God has a unique and specific purpose for me - Ephesians 2:10
- We used to be dead, enslaved to the world and to the ruler of the world, Satan. But now in Jesus we have freedom, life, adoption, forgiveness, and an inheritance - Eph 2:1-10
