Episode Synopsis "UDS and Service Dogs "
Jen and her service dog Griffyn work together to mitigate as many of the everyday effects of Jen’s chronic illness as possible. In early adulthood, Jen started having health issues. Gradually, as her health declined, symptoms became more pronounced and everyday tasks became more difficult. Jen needed to rely more and more on the people around her for help managing symptoms that could affect her safety and to finish necessary activities. Wanting to be as independent as possible, Jen started looking into options that could help. One of the options she found was a service dog. After researching her rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act, what to look for in a service dog program, and the types of dogs each program trained, she ultimately chose UDS Foundation Service Dog Program based in Lancaster, PA. In October of 2018, with the guidance of the trainers, Jen brought home 8 week yellow lab puppy, Griffyn, to start the journey of service dog training.
