In this episode, we are joined by Rory Halpin & Aisling Hearns from Spirasi. Spirasi is the national centre for rehabilitation of victims of torture in Ireland. We learn more about their rehabilitation services and the experiences of asylum seekers & refugees accessing these services in Ireland. We discuss how someone can be referred to Spirasi, what is meant by torture in the Irish context and reflect on our own experiences of torture in Ireland with the troubles in Northern Ireland and the treatment of young women in the Magdalene Laundries. We discuss the value of having content on rehabilitation for survivors of torture included in undergraduate and postgraduate curricula & share resources that our listeners may find useful on this topic!
