Lan Wangji  and Wei Wuxian  descend Cloud Recesses in order to find the remaining corpse parts of the ghost arm. They follow its pointed finger to the Qinghe region of the Nie Sect. They run into Jin Ling and his dog but Wei Wuxian  is deathly afraid of dogs and screams for Lan Wangji  to save him. After Jin Ling and his dog leave, Wei Wuxian  finds out from a sussy merchant that there are rumors of a man eating fortress in the forest. He also finds out that Nie Huaisang has a terrible reputation as a weak sect leader. Wei Wuxian  and Lan Wangji  enter the man eating fortress and save Jin Ling from being buried alive.
