After Jin Guangyao is cornered and injured, Lan Xichen interrogates him to figure out the truth. He admits that he knowingly married his sister and killed his father, because he had no choice. His father was a despicable man who used him as a tool and left his mother to rot in a brothel. Jin Guangyao uses a momentary distraction to hold Jin Ling hostage, but Lan Wangji saves him by cutting off Jin Guangyao’s hand. At that moment, Nie Mingjue’s corpse and Wen Ning appear, crashing into the temple as they fight each other. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji manage to lure Nie Mingjue’s corpse into the coffin and seal it. Lan Xichen helps tend to Jin Guangyao’s wounds, arguing that it's better to keep him alive to answer for his crimes. But suddenly, Nie Huaisang shouts “watch out behind you!”.
