Listen "Living Her Dream Through Art: The Tegan Hamilton Story"
Episode Synopsis
Tegan Hamilton is a multidisciplinary artist whose creative journey spans glass blowing, painting, metalwork, and woodworking. From a young age, she was drawn to artistic expression, inspired by her grandmother’s legacy. Her passion for drawing began early, and during high school, she discovered a talent for three-dimensional art while working on school musicals.Encouraged by a supportive teacher, Tegan applied for a grant from the Ballarat Arts Foundation (BAF) when she began her studies at Monash University. That grant enabled her to purchase a vibrant palette of colours and pushed her to experiment with new techniques. She believes deeply in the importance of supporting young artists - how a little encouragement from someone they admire can open doors they never imagined.Since receiving support from BAF, Tegan has exhibited her work across Australia and Germany, eventually relocating to the United States to further develop her glass blowing practice. Her artistic evolution took a pivotal turn in Seattle, Washington, where she worked in the studio of renowned glass artist Martin Blank. Immersed in the vibrant studio environment, she absorbed everything she could, refining her skills and deepening her connection to the medium. It was during the COVID-19 pandemic that she returned to painting, eventually finding a balance between her professional life and artistic passion.Tegan Hamilton is truly living her dream - creating, connecting, and inspiring others to do the same. Her advice to aspiring artists? “Just have a go. Don’t let the ‘no’s’ stop you.”
