Today we’re diving into the creative world of Jessica Schroeter, a passionate visual artist whose journey has been deeply rooted in Ballarat’s vibrant arts scene. After receiving her first Ballarat Arts Foundation (BAF) grant in 2007 to support her Honours project, Jess has remained a committed contributor to the local arts community ever since.Originally from rural Victoria, Jess moved to Ballarat to study at Federation University’s Arts Academy, graduating in 2011. But her love for painting and drawing began long before that - she’s been creating since childhood. That early BAF grant wasn’t just financial support; it was a turning point. The experience of presenting to a panel and learning the ins and outs of grant applications gave her confidence and clarity as an emerging artist.Teaching has become a cornerstone of Jess’s career. She runs community workshops in screen printing, monotype, and art printing, all while staying true to her roots as an oil painter and avid sketcher. Her journals are overflowing - both literally and creatively - a testament to her dedication to the craft. For Jess, it’s not just about the medium - it’s about the ideas, the connections, and the shared passion that fuels Ballarat’s thriving arts scene.Jess has stayed closely connected to BAF, regularly exhibiting, mentoring, and supporting fellow artists. She’s even taken part in the BAF Mentoring Program, stepping into a new role that expanded her teaching experience beyond the classroom.
